Poem 11

I tried

For the past four months
all I did was try and try
to be the poet expected of me
But I am not Walt Whitman

I had stanzas and lines from the heart
my emotions and feelings brought out
it showed my own creativity
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried using the figurative language
like metaphors and similes
while staying away from abstractions
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried using descriptions and sentiment
my sentimental words were my best
make sure to show not tell
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried making them musically pleasing
Assonance and Consonance confuse me
I deliberately added Anaphora Alliteration
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried so hard to make it Rhyme
End, Internal, Slant Oh my!
Every song time I used them
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried perfecting the Poetic Meter of Prosody
incorporating meter and foot
playing with Accentual Syllabic Verse
But I am not Walt Whitman

I tried a variety of forms presented
I thought my sonnet was great
and my Haikus superb
But I am not Walt Whitman

I even tried a Villanelle
Choosing my words carefully
taking the time to perfect
But I am not Walt Whitman

Now four months later and still
I tried
and tried

But I am not Walt Whitman

Poem 10

Gravity

As The Hours, And The Days, And The Weeks, And The Months, And The Years Roll By
Behind close doors
Crying in the night
Daddy’s little girl
Empty
Fighting the gravity
Give me just a little more time
Heaven knows I’m miserable now
I can’t change it
Just one last time
Kisses on the wind
Let me know
My heart will go on
Nothing lasts forever
Only love can hurt like this
Paralyzed
Quiet times
Reach out of the darkness
Safe and sound
Taking over me
Unanswered prayers
Victims of circumstance
Wishing you were here
XO
Yesterday, today, and probably tomorrow

Zero gravity

*Each line is the name of a song

Poem 9

My senses open my heart to desire
I sit here every day indulging, enjoying
hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, tasting
I wonder what they will bring today

I sit here every day indulging, enjoying
The air feels cool on my face and I smile
I wonder what the day will bring.
When I open my body and let them in.

The air smells fresh and I know
The sound of trees the rustling leaves I see
I open my body and let them in
with these I believe my morning begins

I always start my day this way
hear, see, touch, smell, taste
each of them together do inspire

Now my senses open my heart to desire.

Poem 8-Monster

Sugapuelffuns (Soogapoolfuns)

The Sugapuelffuns is an elephant like creature who lurks with intent in the forest, only to show himself to those who believe in him. Most don’t think he is actually real. He is a dark brown color with long fur and big feet. His long nose drags on the ground and his bushy tail follows right behind him. On a typical day you can find the Sugapuelffuns smelling flowers and eating grass. He is a kind creature and never harms another. The Sugapuelffuns is a vegetarian, eating only plants from the ground. Most of the time the Sugapuelffuns is very lonely because he is only seen to those who believe in him. He does have one friend though. Her name is little duck. Below is a picture of the quaint being. So innocent.

poem 7-Haikus

Swaying left and right
As the branch releases them
leaves fall to the ground

Look up at the sky
White shiny ball blinding me
Squint and close one eye

A strong gust of wind
the cold air pinches my face
warm inside my coat

daisies rising up
poison ready to attack
it’s time for sneezing

Poem 5

Satisfaction

I wake up with determination
Today it will be different.
There’s so much that I want to do
and only I can make it happen

I wake up with Determination
where in the world is my gym shoe!
I’m going to hit the finish line
five, ten, fifteen, twenty, 26.2

I wake up with determination
a blank page with taunting pain
my hands tingle ready write
the words come to my brain

I wake up with determination
a tornado hit my house
laundry, dishes, vacuum, sweep
the rush of clean is oh so sweet

I wake up with determination
I'm invisible and filled with fear
my heart beats fast as our eyes meet
he grins from ear to ear

I wake up with determination
I great reward I must find
wake up with determination

go to bed with peace of mind
